The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced that pork and beef products from eligible establishments in Canada that are processed on or after November 5, 2019 may be exported to China.

The CFIA says it will begin issuing export certificates for compliant pork and beef products to China from all eligible establishments.

Exports of Canadian meat to China were halted in June. Chinese authorities were claiming, within other things, that the Canadian products were not compliant or were covered by counterfeit veterinary health certificates. No clear reasons were given for the resumption of imports.

The Canadian Cattlemen's Association (CCA) applauded the resumption of exports to China will be resumed. "The Canadian beef industry looks forward to the resumption of trade and continuing to build the long-standing Canada-China trade relationship," said Bob Lowe, CCA Vice President and Chair of the Foreign Trade committee.

Rick Bergmann, Chairman of the Canadian Pork Council, said "We are very appreciative of the efforts of government officials to help restore reliable access to China."
