Reminder: New "Safe Food for Canadians Regulations" rules start on January 15

A new phase of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations is coming into force on January 15, 2020.

Importers of the the following food commodities will require a valid Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence to import:

  • Meat products and food animals
  • Fish
  • Dairy products
  • Eggs and processed egg products
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Processed fruit or vegetable products
  • Honey products
  • Maple products

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, importers without a valid licence may experience delays or rejection of their shipment at the border, and may be subject to other enforcement actions.
