EU - Vietnam free trade agreement set to begin later this year

February 12, 2020

The European Parliament approved the EU-Vietnam trade and investment agreements this week, and the trade agreement is now set to enter into force in 2020, upon conclusion of the ratification procedure by Vietnam.

Vietnam's National Assembly is expected to ratify the Vietnam-EU free trade agreement at its upcoming meeting scheduled in May.

The trade agreement will eliminate virtually all tariffs on goods traded between the two sides.

Canada already has free trade links with both sides, Vietnam with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the European Union with the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
