Tariff relief consultations on certain wheels and certain cookware

August 27, 2020

The Department of Finance is reviewing two requests for the removal of customs duties on two commodities as follows:

Tariff relief consultation: section 82: wheels

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of customs duties on imports of "wheels, whether or not fitted with axles, used in the manufacture of wheel and axle combinations", and which are classified under Tariff Item No. 8607.19.29 of the Customs Tariff as parts of railway or tramway locomotives or rolling-stock, currently dutiable at 9.5% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff.

The applicant claims that these parts are not available from Canadian production, and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness in both the domestic and international markets. If you have an interest in this request, or are aware of others who could potentially be affected by such action, we would appreciate receiving your views. Please submit your views to fin.tariff-tarif.fin@canada.ca, indicating "Section 82: wheels" in the subject line, by October 2, 2020.
