Tribunal to review expiry of duties on refined sugar from several countries

October 9, 2020

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal initiated a review to determine if the expiry of its order from October 2015 is likely to lead to continued or resumed dumping of refined sugar from the United States of America, Denmark, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, and subsidizing of the aforementioned goods from the European Union.

In the first step of the review the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will determine, by March 1, 2021, if there is a likelihood of resumed or continued dumping or subsidizing of the goods if the finding is left to expire.

In the event of positive determinations, the Tribunal will determine, on August 6, 2021, whether the continued or resumed dumping or subsidizing is likely to result in injury.
