Peru becomes a full member of the Trans-Pacific Partnership

December 22, 2021

The Canada Border Services Agency issued a Customs Notice stating that Peru ratified the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) on September 19, 2021.

As a result, eligible Peruvian goods imported into Canada are entitled to the CPTPP tariff treatment as of September 19, 2021 and requests for refunds of duties may be presented.

It should be noted that imports from Peru already benefit from the tariff treatment of the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA), in force since August 2009..

The Government of Peru was one of the original signatories of the CPTPP in March 2018 but the country's parliament did not ratify the agreement until last summer. This ratification became effective September 19.
