December 29, 2021

Canada's Minister of International Trade, Mary Ng spoke with India's Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, last week.

The ministers welcomed a re-engagement on negotiations toward a Canada-India comprehensive economic partnership agreement and a Canada-India foreign investment promotion and protection agreement, and committed to working closely together to reach agreements in the coming months.

Canada and India launched negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2010. The most recent round of negotiations was held in August 2017 in New Delhi.

At that time, constructive discussions were held on various issues, including cross-border trade in goods and services, e-commerce, telecommunications, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, as well as technical barriers to trade.
