More time needed in investigation of dumping and subsidizing of mattresses from China

May 18, 2022

Due to the existence of circumstances that make it unusually difficult to make a preliminary determination regarding the alleged injurious dumping and subsidizing of mattresses from China within the normal ninety days, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that it extended the 90-day period for making preliminary decisions to 135 days.

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal determined in April that there is preliminary evidence that dumping and subsidizing have caused injury or are threatening to cause injury to Canadian industry. Provisional anti-dumping and/or countervailing duties could be applied to the goods in question if CBSA confirms that they are the subject of dumping and/or subsidization.

The decision by CBSA to issue its preliminary determination, or to terminate all or part of the investigation, will now be made on or before July 7, 2022.
