June 8, 2022

Canada and India re-launched talks on a free trade agreement following a Ministerial Dialogue held in New Delhi on March 11, 2022.

At the time both sides agreed to consider an interim agreement or Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA) that could be concluded early as a transitional step towards the CEPA.

Canada's Minister of International Trade, Mary Ng, spoke with India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal this week.

Minister Ng and Minister Goyal noted progress in the second round of negotiations on the Canada-India Early Progress Trade Agreement, while the two countries continue to work toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

The ministers discussed the status of negotiations on key issues, including trade in goods and services, and investment protection.

Minister Ng and Minister Goyal reaffirmed their commitment to maintain momentum into the next round of negotiations, to take place in the coming months.
