United Kingdom officially joins the Trans-Pacific Partnership

At the seventh Commission meeting of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) hosted by New Zealand, members welcomed the United Kingdom as the newest member of the agreement.

UK's Business and Trade Secretary, Kemi Badenoch formally signed the treaty to accede to the CPTPP trade bloc on July 16, 2023.

With the U.K.'s accession, the CPTPP will account for roughly 14.6% of the global economy and nearly 590 million consumers in 2022.

CPTPP members' agreement to undertake an accession process with the United Kingdom was the first such in the agreement's history.
