Changes to excise duty rate increases on certain products on April 1, 2024

March 25, 2024

On March 9, 2024, the Minister of Finance announced that the federal government is proposing to cap the inflation adjustment for excise duty rates on beer, spirits and wine at 2% for 2 additional years and to cut by half the excise duty rates on the first 15,000 hectolitres of beer brewed in Canada for 2 years.

As a result, the published rates of excise duty applicable to these products effective April 1, 2024 have been corrected.
