Governments of Canada and Ecuador sign new Free Trade Agreement

July 31, 2026

Canada's Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, and Luis Jaramillo, Ecuador's Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, and Investments, signed the Canada-Ecuador Free Trade Agreement last weekend. Canada and Ecuador successfully concluded the negotiations on a free trade agreement in January 2025.

Following the signing of the agreement, Canada and Ecuador will each complete their respective domestic ratification processes. The agreement will enter into force after ratification procedures are complete.

The trade relationship between Canada and Ecuador is highly complementary; Canada imports tropical fruits, flowers, cacao and seafood from Ecuador, while Ecuador buys wheat, lentils and peas from Canada.
