Prime Minister, Mark Carney, welcomed the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to Ottawa this week for the first-ever visit to Canada by a Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
During their meeting, the leaders agreed to deepen the Canada - United Arab Emirates (UAE) relationship and launched a new Strategic Partnership.
As an immediate step in this new partnership, Canada and the UAE signed the new Canada-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), following the conclusion of negotiations in a record 47 days the fastest either country has negotiated a free trade agreement.
Once fully implemented, the CEPA will reduce or eliminate tariffs on over 99% of current Canadian exports to the UAE.
The CEPA is expected to enter into force in 2027, lowering costs and expanding choices for consumers and businesses in both countries, creating high-quality careers for Canadian workers, and building stronger, more resilient supply chains.
